Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Here are my chicks. I'm guessing Patches is a roo, not sure about Tulip. They are 6 weeks old.

Patches:

Tulip:

Together:

Patches on left, Tulip on right

So any guesses? My guess for Patches is based off the big patches of white on the wings, but what do I know? :) They both have small combs still and they are pinkish in the pictures, but it was pretty warm.

@katatonic123, looks like a pullet to me, at least for now, silkie X EE's can be hard to sex by comb because of the mixing of pea and walnut.

@Thenewman3 , looks like a pullet to me. It's very feminine and the color too is looking very puletish.

@Faraday40 , At 8 weeks, probably a pullet. It does have 3 rows, but that rule doesn't work well with pea X straight comb mixes. The body shape is very feminine as well.

gender guesses? 8 weeks old
Pullet by coloring. Also, I don't see any comb at all, which I would expect to on an 8 wk old cockerel.

Here's a challenge. This one is exactly 8 weeks old. I 1st thought male b/c the comb is wide. It is 1/2 English Orpington (11 lb roo) + 1/2 EE.
Now he/she looks so small & petite next to its siblings.

Any guesses?
Looks more like a pullet to me too. That's quite the comb though.

My other two silkie/EE crosses. Their dad was a white silkie. Same mom as the others I posted. They are 8 weeks old.
Arrrgh...You're killing me with these Silkies!

I'm terrible at walnut combs. Can't you tell a male Silkie early from the presence of a larger spiky crest? If there's anything to that, then the white one might be more cockerel looking. ??? Second one looks pullet from the coloring. If those are PJ's feet in the 2nd pic, they look as slender as DJ's, so maybe both pullets.???? Can you tell I'm really guessing here?

Do they play with the hanging toys?

Both are pullets, aren't they? Webster's doing her best to confuse us, though.

I agree with you, but 6 weeks is still kind of young. Watch for any big changes in the next 2 weeks.

response: Yeah, I am pretty sure they are both pullets, her red is weird but she is girly in every other way. Her comb is single and not significant, her legs are slender and girly, she is timid and ....ridiculously scared, her tail feathers are all round.

@Wishing4Wings Yes they were PJ's feet. They don't really play with the toys. I just haven't taken them out. I worry about the spiky crest too on PJ but from the front it looks so poofy like a girl.
