Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

At 9 weeks I think you should be looking at the comb. My Black Australorps are SUPER shiny green/blue/purple in the right sunlight. And when you compare chick 1 to the brother, as you note, the male had all kinds of white splash. Chick 1 looks to be "solid" black.

Part of the issue I'm having with comb sexing chick 1 is the fact that he/she has a cushion comb with no development. Chick 2 has what looks to be a pea comb with a single row. Both are raspberry coloured, so hue hasn't been much of an indication either.

I did post comb photos earlier:
Chick 1

Chick 2

I appreciate everyone's input. I was just sharing things I had noted and stood out to me as curiosoties.

As I said, I'm aware that black birds of both sexes can have remarkable iridescence, and both of our solid black chicks are very iridescent. The wing band on chick 1 is markedly brighter/more colourful, as was his brother's.
They're observations that may mean nothing at all, but I'm curious to find out. I have another solid black chick hatched out this past Friday that I'll keep an eye on too.
For fun.

Just got my 7 chicks from Meyer. Supposed to be 2 Black Australorps, 2 White Rocks and 3 EEs but 2 are dark and chipmunky and I have 3 yellow chicks. But one yellow chick has slightly darker legs and some brownish red on its face and neck. It might also have some "cheeks" but all the birds are 2 day old fluff balls so hard to tell. Could possibly be a white/light EE??

Can anyone tell me if they are girls?
JUST KIDDING!!!

The darker legs (feet, actually) would not be White Rocks, so it's likely an Easter Egger.
Unfortunately, you can't tell from their down what they'll look like all feathered in.

My ees from Meyer clearly had fuzzy little beards from day one and two of them were chipmunk colored. I ordered 15 hens from Meyer and now they are 17 weeks and they are all definitely hens and I still have all 15. I had really good luck with Meyer. They are beautiful as well. One was a grey chick with brown on her back she ended up grey and white . One chipmunk chick ended up honey colored with black around the edges. The other chipmunk looks like a welsummer with a beard.
