Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Okay you EE experts... I have another batch of babies who are 3.5 weeks (will be 4 weeks on Monday). I would LOVE some attempts at guesses. I can't really tell them apart, but I can look out for those with similar coloration and watch how it develops.
I'm not an expert by any means but um, er, well, you got a lot of sturdy looking legs there

The red on the wings of #1 are of concern.

Thanks for guessing anyway

I've sort of already decided that #1, 2, 4, 8 (same as 4), 11, and 13 are all cockerels...

...but I'm curious about why the coloration on #5, 6, 7, and 9 (same as 5) looks cockerel-suspicious. I sort of assumed that that color was pullet-like!

Aoxa and others who have guessed cockerel on the brown kids? Let me in on your reasoning?

Eh, just wanted to point out that I'm not breeding or hatching them, just keep getting straight run from hatcheries... so dunno why they'd be mostly roosters except that if I wanted to screw people over, that's what I'd do!

Ohhhhh. That is highly suspicious, isn't it? I would contact the hatchery about it. Anything much off of 50% seems like trickery. False advertising at the very least.

Based on the hatch I did - I'd say 5, 6, 9, 12 are all hens!

I followed that hatch, and I remember all those cockerels, they were so pretty! Maybe the odds this season were skewed

Thanks for the guess, I hope you're right. And I really hope that all my pullets are just camera shy...

Yes, out of our 14 Easter Eggers only 3 were pullets! One is still an unknown...

I don't even think the hatchery I got them from (Meyer this batch, the last batch was from an unknown hatchery through a third party) has a guarantee of any sort about straight run... which is I guess how they get you to pay the extra for pullets. I just always want some boys to butcher in my batches. Granted, I said some, not all!

Yep, once I get some Ameraucanas I'm hatching my own EE's

I can't venture a guess on those because they have a lot of natural red in their feathers. Hard to spot if the tell tale "wing patches" are showing up. Would have to go by "thick legs" and "roo stance" until the hackle and saddle feathers start to show up (or not

You'll still get some boys, but at least you'll know there is nothing suspicious about the percentage

It is hard to change that idea. I like blaming the men.

But there is this theory that ACV changes the PH and allows for more females to develop. I don't know all the details, but gave it a shot for the fun of it. My first hatch with wayyyy more girls than boys. It's 65/35% for the girl to boy ratio. Yes. I think I like that. I'd give you more details, but I don't have much time.

I'm normally right on the 50% margin. It wasn't even that I hatched a few chicks and gave it that %. There were 30 chicks I hatched and that is my hatch % for girls and boys.

Yes! I remember now reading about the vinegar increasing pullet %. Maybe it was you.

I think I read it from someone on my local thread, though. My poor brain isn't running as smoothly with these short days!

Ok, here are the 7 week update photos of my leghorn/Ameraucana cross. Comb is pretty pink, I hope shes still a "she"!

And here is a 5 week EE Im hoping is a girl. No comb coloring or development, Im thinking the pattern is girlish (no red on shoulders)
