Thanks for the definition! I am feeling quite relieved about Izzy. I'm so glad I posted the pictures and thank you for your vote of pullet last nightYay! Relieved to see that others think Izzy is a pullet! I think smut is a reference to feathers being an impure color, maybe some grey or black fluff at the base of feathers that should be solid buff for example. Makes the bird look slightly dirty and would be an undesirable trait for showing.
Thank you. I will have to google Salmon Favorelle - sounds fancy! They both look like pullets. Izzy looks like she has Salmon Favorelle in her.
Both of these look like pullets to me. Connie looks like a pullet for sure, and I'd give you an 80/20 chance that Izzy is a pullet. All that red on the chest makes the red on the wings seem like her overall pattern. I would post photos again in a few weeks. Or listen for a crow!Okay I have been procrastinating about putting up pictures of my chickens because I am pretty sure what answers I am going to get on the he/she question. Fingers crossed that I have totally misunderstood everything that I have read here and I have two lovely girls...
This is Izzy:
These are the new feathers that are coming in on Izzy's shoulders.

I am not allowed to have roosters where I live so I am hoping for girls...
These both look like pullets to me, especially since the red/white bird carries the red coloring onto the breast as part of an overall pattern. The darker one has a pretty typical pullet pattern. Of course, at 5.5 weeks, I could still be wrong!
