I think boy but really not sure. Mad ninja skills mean nothing except that your chicken is trying to be dominant. I have a speckled Sussex that is 8 weeks now and showing no comb changes so the chances I have a surprise male are near zero. She took on one of the grown hens yesterday! She's just aiming high.

It's young, 3.5 weeks but this chick is making me wonder about the sex. I was told the bin only had females but.... There is no color on the comb at this point. The colors are very bright. My batteries in the camera burned out getting these shots so didnt get a good chest or comb shot.

The color is bright gold and the chest is covered with the gold feathers. This chick insists on this perch if the lid is off. The others have gone up to it but not often.






These are the two other chicks we got at the same time. Hopefully they are pullets.

I have a question if you all don't mind.

My 3 EE have more bluish/slate colored legs than green. Does that mean they don't have as good of a chance to lay blue/green eggs? I'm still working out which traits are more closely linked to the blue/green gene.

This one has me stumped. The color makes me think roo, and the comb is slightly more red than the other EE that is the same age. Behavior is completely pullet though. He/she is the first to run and hide as well as scream if anything startles him. Roo or hen?

Annewandering, they look girly so far.

ChickenFox, green legs come from mixing slate legs with yellow skin. If the chicken has white skin, the legs look blue. It's completely unrelated to egg color. Some say that the pea comb is related but I suspect it's more like Ameraucana crosses being bred together and seeing more Ameraucana traits is what improves the chances of maintaining the blue egg gene. There are plenty of straight-combed, blue egg layers, though.

Cockerel. I called my EE cockerel "Woody Allen" for a while because he was a most reluctant leader even in the absence of other roosters. He's just a meek boy.

Ok This little EE is 5 1/2 weeks old now, the comb is getting pinker but to me those fluffy pants look girly, like most of us who cannot have roosters it may be wishful thinking....

Oh good, cause I also have one with a straight comb and another that seems to have a straight/pea hybrid.

He runs from a Silkie chick! Seriously!! This boy needs to get some testosterone in a hurry or he's going to have a tough time when he gets put into the "big pen" with my hens.
