Slipswife, that looks like a pullet. More brown than red and very even pattern (not blotchy) looks female. Comb is small for 10 weeks. Never seen one colored quite like that. Pretty!

The brown one, Pepper, is a pullet. For Sassy, I'm not sure, but the red wings look male, and the comb is more developed. (Is Sassy also 14 weeks? I don't see wattles on either bird, which at 14 weeks you expect to see on a cockerel. Unless they are beardless EE types that don't have wattles? A bit of a mystery!) I don't think either one is an EE, unless they are several generations out, but that label often gets used for any type of cross. Can't help with breeds. It's sometimes easier to tell when they get their adult plumage.I've been reading and enjoying all the wonderful information on this thread. So I'm going to ask for some helpI have two what we think are EE mixed. We are not sure with what. That's what others have been telling us. I got them from a guy who I believe was cross breeding. Not smart I know.
It's driving me crazy! I believe pepper is a pullet.she is very quiet and skittish. Please correct me if I'm wrong! She is 14 weeks.
The real mystery is Sassy !!!! I can't figure her/him out!!! I'm driving my husband crazyplease someone help!![]()
the pictures got a bit mixed up. Sassy's tail feathers have been really slow to grow and she or he
barely had any feathers on her wings as a chick. Much different personality then the others! Very attentive, curious, holds her neck very high! She has a purple tint to her feathers in the sun and has a bigger body. I am use to calling sassy a girl, so I apologize. If anyone could please give me any information. If I have the wrong breed? I know her legs are not the right color for a EE I'm guessing it's from her being a cross breed. My 3 other girls are RIR and yes I bought from a hatchery. Definitely learned my lesson. I love all of my chickens. I really enjoy watching sassy! We are not aloud to have roosters. However, I do have a home on a farm with 10 hens if that's the case. I really hope not ! Anything will help! Thank you ! And might I add great pictures of others babies!
Yes, sassy is also 14 weeks. Has a slight red on chin. American game was one persons guess . As I searched, they seem to have very developed combs and wattles. Quote: Were they 14 weeks when the pics were taken? Age matters when you're trying to identify a breed and the sex.
You could start a new thread in the Breeds section. You'll get some good opinions there. People will want to see close ups of combs and full side views of the body, and info about size and age. (look under Forum: Chicken Breeds: What Breed or Gender is This?)
Also, can you ask anyone where you got them about possible breeds? You may have to settle for an answer of Barnyard Mix, but that's okay. My dogs are both Shelter Specials.![]()
No, we don't get tired.Do you all get tired of us newbies posting picts because we are so impatient about whether we have cockrels or pullets? If so please forgive us...maybe after a year, we'll get the hang of it.. I'm learning everyday that I get on here...Im at least learning tidbits here and there...SOOOOOO....here are my picts, I try to get better ones each time I get them
The last one (this one has bare patches)is the one that I found had been pecked by another one that I separated from the group...already figured out he was a cockrel...along with another one...None of these have developed the rosey combs yet...but I wonder about the brown on...more shy so can't get close up. Not at all willing to come close when I'm at the door with my phone cam. The white one beside him (1st pict) is developing buff tips...pretty coloring...Middle one is same coloring pretty much to the last one.......Whatcha think?
Thank you! Now my husband can say " told you so " now the mystery of finding out what breed mix? I got them both from the same breeder. He won't return our calls.Sassy is a cockerel.
