Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Quote: Glad you did not take offense. I have Seramas, which don't do well much below 40º, so many people keep them as house pets (not me!). There are all kinds of people on BYC with all kinds of ways, so I never want to assume anything!

If your EEs are 5 weeks, they are right at the turning point. Most of the cockerels start showing signs by 5-6 weeks, so if you don't see any big changes with your two, they are pullets. If you're not sure, post back.

I was afraid of that. Comb is inconclusive.

It's a little bigger and pinker than I expected to see. Still think you have a good chance for pullets, but reserving judgement until next week.

Will keep our fingers crossed.

I'll try to get better pics, but we think one of our EEs may be a cockerel. Thoughts would be greatly appreciated. She's about 10-15% bigger than all of our other 12 chickens (all same age, 8.5 weeks). She's also the least social (to humans). All the others we can hold. And she's in the top three for pecking order (if you can base that on who's on the top roost). The lighter one is the one I'm referring to:

Looks like a big pullet. Hopefully she will lay big eggs! At 8½ weeks the comb would be larger and redder if a cockerel. Also she has the even pullet pattern. (No patches of color.)

Forgot to say that often the friendliest birds are males!

About "Penney"

x2 on the questionable comb, but
Feathers say pullet.

I still think pullet.

I think the upright one is a pullet. Her size is simply determined by the various breeds in her mix. We thought my son's "Firefighter" (what he named it) was a cockerel. Therefore, I really didn't care what he named it. After all, the males were being given to a local farm. Turns out Firefighter was just big & dominant. She lays HUGE round pinkish eggs - almost daily.

From the looks of those cheeks, I'm guessing you'll see greenish or blueish eggs.
