Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Is it too early to sex this one? 4 week old.

Both are of the same bird? The feather pattern is showing pullet so far. In the next couple of weeks, if you see patches of dark red developing on the wings that disrupts the nice even pattern, that would show it's a cockerel. If I had to bet, I'd say pullet.

Hello, posting here cause my other thread seems dead and I still have a question. I know this little one isn't the average looking EE mix but.. he/she has inherited the pea comb and colors of EEs.

This is Nugget, I got him/her as a gift and I don't know the exact age but from what the person I got him/her from said.. I'm guessing maybe 1 1/2 - 2 month(s). What do you think? The responses from my thread were both "pullet" but is it normal for a pullet this young to have such a pinkish comb? Thank you in advance.

The comb isn't the only way to tell the sex. Could you get a standing profile showing the whole body so we can see the color and pattern on the wing? I think it could very well be a pullet.

Need a side view of Scarlett to see the color and pattern on the wings.
Sawyer is a cockerel for sure.
Not sure about Eleanor.  Looks like a rose comb in her baby pic.  Part Wyandotte?

This pic is when she was almost 4 weeks old.
The person I purchased them from assured me they were "true Aracaunas" I'm beginning to see that isn't the case so I have no idea what they are...

Quote: You can see where there is some gold on Scarlett's wing. With her coloring, if she's a cockerel, you will see dark red feathers coming in on the wing.. (The red is showing on Sawyer.) The red usually starts to develop by 5-6 weeks, so it may not be showing yet in this 4 wk pic. Based on her comb at this age, I would have suspected her to be a cockerel, but combs are not always reliable. I cannot see the comb clearly enough in the 6wk picture to judge. I am leaning toward pullet with her, but am not confident without better id pics.

Eleanor has darker red on her wings, but to me it doesn't look like cockerel red, more of gold laced look. A good close up of her comb would also be helpful. Leaning toward pullet with her, but again, not confident.

None of these birds are standard Ameraucana. They may be crosses, but are mostly missing the beards and muffs you would expect to see. Cute though, especially Scarlett.

You should know their sex in a couple of weeks. Hope you get a couple of pullets. Post back if you can to show us how they turn out.
