Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

You can see where there is some gold on Scarlett's wing. With her coloring, if she's a cockerel, you will see dark red feathers coming in on the wing.. (The red is showing on Sawyer.) The red usually starts to develop by 5-6 weeks, so it may not be showing yet in this 4 wk pic. Based on her comb at this age, I would have suspected her to be a cockerel, but combs are not always reliable. I cannot see the comb clearly enough in the 6wk picture to judge. I am leaning toward pullet with her, but am not confident without better id pics.

Eleanor has darker red on her wings, but to me it doesn't look like cockerel red, more of gold laced look. A good close up of her comb would also be helpful. Leaning toward pullet with her, but again, not confident.

None of these birds are standard Ameraucana. They may be crosses, but are mostly missing the beards and muffs you would expect to see. Cute though, especially Scarlett.

You should know their sex in a couple of weeks. Hope you get a couple of pullets. Post back if you can to show us how they turn out.

Thanks so much for your help! I really am hoping Scarlett and Eleanor are both pullets.....I can't keep three roosters!!

Good pics, but unfortunately they aren't conclusive one way or the other. Scarlett's comb is larger than I thought, even though it's very pale, and Eleanor has a cushion or strawberry type comb, for which I have zero experience. So I am now firmly on the wait-another-week-and-see fence. Hoping they are pullets, but you might need a little luck.

This is rue/roo I think this one is a boy but not to sure. This one just acts different then our other 7 chickens. Also a 9 week old EE. Thoughts? This first picture that's him on the right by himself.

We suspect 2 or 3 roos out of 9 week old easter eggers. Can I get some input?!

Freckles (we are certain is a roo)

And Diamond. Who no longer has a diamond on her head but we are 100% sure she's a pullet.

And then there's some cuteness to brighten your day! Our daughter with her white silkie chick Callie.

Kind if what we were thinking. We now have 4 roos then bc we got a roo and pullet white bantam silkies. We only wanted 1 roo for our ladies

the roo silkie Skye is the friendliest of our 14. Anyone in central NY want some easter egger roos!!

thank you junebuggena! Do you have any thoughts as to why rue/roo is so different than our other chickens? He is very independent and very jumpy and darts everywhere he goes.

Thanks to everyone for posting so many wonderful pictures on this thread! I just joined the site last week after reading so much on here over the past month and a half as I acquired my first chicks and learned to take care of them. Have not done an intro post yet, but thought this thread was fantastic.

I have 18 chicks, 16 of which arrived as unknowns. I figured some out quickly, others are up in the air!

One chick was obviously an EE from day one, and another was obvious by the end of the first week. I also, from the beginning, felt they were both boys (!) based on their behavior and interactions with the other chicks. One thing in particular I noticed was the "obvious from the beginning one" seemed to have very rooster-like movements from early on, very sinuous neck movements if that makes sense LOL!

So I thought I'd put up their photos to see if y'all think I'm right. I have a couple other chicks I think might be EEs but not sure about
sex or breed on them.

Here's the first one (this is the one I thought was likely a boy from the beginning, and could tell it was an EE from the puffy face. :)
Chick 1 (taken at 3 weeks)

This one I initially thought might be a Welsummer (I ordered a Welsummer girl, and this chick looked just like her only somehow had a boy vibe). Then his legs turned color!
Chick 2 (2 photos; just shy of 4 weeks)
