Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Welcome to BYC, ultraflora!!

I think you are right about both being cockerels. Concentration of white on the first one's wings and dark red patches for the second. I can't see the comb well on the second one, but I don't think there is anything with green legs coming out of the hatcheries other than EEs. Might be something else, but it sure does look like a boy. Even if it doesn't get a beard/cheeks, if it's an EE, it probably won't grow wattles, so that would be a clue.

Thanks to everyone for posting so many wonderful pictures on this thread! I just joined the site last week after reading so much on here over the past month and a half as I acquired my first chicks and learned to take care of them. Have not done an intro post yet, but thought this thread was fantastic.

I have 18 chicks, 16 of which arrived as unknowns. I figured some out quickly, others are up in the air!

One chick was obviously an EE from day one, and another was obvious by the end of the first week. I also, from the beginning, felt they were both boys (!) based on their behavior and interactions with the other chicks. One thing in particular I noticed was the "obvious from the beginning one" seemed to have very rooster-like movements from early on, very sinuous neck movements if that makes sense LOL!

So I thought I'd put up their photos to see if y'all think I'm right. I have a couple other chicks I think might be EEs but not sure about
sex or breed on them.

Here's the first one (this is the one I thought was likely a boy from the beginning, and could tell it was an EE from the puffy face. :)
Chick 1 (taken at 3 weeks)

This one I initially thought might be a Welsummer (I ordered a Welsummer girl, and this chick looked just like her only somehow had a boy vibe). Then his legs turned color!
Chick 2 (2 photos; just shy of 4 weeks)

Looks just my cockerels who are three weeks, I know mine are cockerels because three rows on pea comb, and coloring.

Hi! My husband and I have been learning a lot from Backyard Chickens and having fun with this thread. We have 9, nine week old EE's below are pictures of 6 of them and our guess for cockerel or hen.

Would love some feedback to help us sex them and ultimately name 1-3!

Thx! TeamTanZ

Magnum - (very early/6 week old red comb & facial feature development, black & white coloring, most social, youngest bird) cock?

Rossignol - hen?

Cloud - (named after a trail at our local ski mtn, very docile) hen?

Hawkeye - (named after a trail at our local ski mtn) hen?

#1 (no name) - hen?

#2 (n0 name) - hen?

#3 (no name) - (note Magnum is eating from the hand & #3 is looking at the camera) hen?

We also have 2 all black EE's that we believe to be hens & realize we don't have a picture of.

Who wants to guess, we'd love to hear.

Very pretty cockerel.

Rossignol - hen?
Pullet.

Cloud - (named after a trail at our local ski mtn, very docile) hen?
Pullet.

Hawkeye - (named after a trail at our local ski mtn) hen?
Cockerel. (You can see his cock feathers coming in)

#1 (no name) - hen?
Hard to tell, I'm leaning toward pullet though. What about Iris?

#2 (n0 name) - hen?
I think pullet, How about Star?

#3 (no name) - (note Magnum is eating from the hand & #3 is looking at the camera) hen?
Pullet. How about Goldy?

You have some pretty EE's!

In addition to Magnum, I think Hawkeye and #1 are also cockerels. Both are such pretty birds (especially #1 - gorgeous coloring) that I would keep them just in case. If you can get pics of the black ones, love to see them. Focus in on the combs for the solid colors. Would also love to see a side view of Hawkeye, just to be 100% sure.

Thanks guys! I got a quick pic of BIG(background) & Puff(in the foreground ... how historically correct .. ha!) before the rain came in...
both pullets?

@MyMilleFleur would you explain the 'cock feathers' you mentioned on Hawkeye??

Both look like pullets to me.

LL

He has thin, pointy feathers coming in on his neck, and you can see curved, shiny, sickle feathers coming in on his tail, much too shiny for a pullet.

@Wishing4Wings Thank you!!

I really wanted EEs so i was keeping my eye on local papers & the CList ... a guy about 45minutes away(from Saratoga Springs, NY) had them advertised on the CList at 3-4 weeks old. We went to look and did our best to pick what we thought were pullets, hoping for no more then 2 roosters(Magnum & Hawkeye), although it's sounding like we may have a third roo(#1) based on feedback here. If that proves to be true we may be looking to trade #1 for a hen or a meat bird....
