Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

x2 a straight on comb shot with no glare would be helpful, how big do the legs look on Arizona? I would lean toward cockerel right now though.

That picture of Arizona was actually when s/he was about 8 weeks. S/he was one of the (I thought at the time) for sure males, so I sent "him" off with my sister, who needed roosters as well as hens. I just added the picture in with the chickens I actually kept, because I was curious if I had made the right decision. Now I am kind of regretting it, as so many are on the fence about the gender. The comb was bright red and significantly raised, though maybe not as definite, at the time.

Chickhum- Wishing is totally right. That bird is tricky. I looked at the red and immediately thought cockerel, but it seems that is going to be await and see bird.

ah, well this is all a learning game for everyone so this is a lesson that sometimes for certain birds wait and see is the best approach. There will be other chances. If it makes you feel any better, if it was that red at 8 weeks you prob made the right decision and you should check with your sis and see where he/she is now in development.

I saw Rocky crow today--how fun! It really is exciting to hatch and then watch develop, these beautiful little creatures. I love it!

I currently have a black olive egger who I know is male and did from day 1. But we also have an Easter egger that I am unsure of. Everything about her says female except some orangy coloring that she got very early on all over her winvs and some in her saddle area that concerns me. But its not that dark brick red you would normally see in an EE cockerel. So I am hoping for the best because my girl Luna is getting pretty old (3/4 years) and I feel this may be one of my last chances to finally get a pullet from her. So far the chick looks like a barn owl. Lol.
then we also have a recessive white ameraucana chick that is feathering out sooooo slowly. So im guessing male. And a very friendly EE chick that is feathering out silver laced with a single comb. So im questioning who mom is. I thought red sexlink with the single comb, but silver lacing says miss wyandotte ?

I dont know but I will get pics up eventually for you to guess with! I feel they are a bit too young at the moment. But im sure you can help my EE/OE sexing. Im very good at it on other peoples birds. But my secret hoping for girls of my own has got me to qusstion myself!

Im not expecting a certain answer, but does this pattern look like it will be female? Father was a lavender ameraucana and mpther was either a red sexlink or silver laced wyandotte. (Has a single comb). Born maybe June 13th? Feathering out very fast. Picture was taken last week maybe. Extremely friendly and loves attention. Also, which mother do you think she came from? Ill update with another picture when she is fully featherec. Im thinking girl. Comb has no development and is small and pale as well as flopped over/not straight up.

It probably has a single comb because the parents are both carrying a single comb gene, something a pure Ameraucana should not have if they are 'pure.' It's a recessive comb type and takes one gene from each parent to produce it. Lavender is a project color for Ameraucana, and some lines have had lavender Orpingtons bred in to boost color. This helps explain how that single comb showed up. Hatchery quality Wyandottes sometimes carry single comb genes.Silver is a dominant, sexlinked color. But since the rooster is Lavender, which can hide a lot of other genes, there is no way to know for sure which is the mother. Basically, you're going to have to wait a few more weeks to know if it's boy or girl.

Too young to tell. I remember my first batch of EE's and remember thinking to myself that they all looked partridge colored.. Even though in the end I had a range of colors from white/black to red. All the signs you rare saying, comb for instance point towards a pullet. Update us in a couple weeks!

I just got three 2 month old babies from a craigslister. She said she isn't sure if they are full ee or ee/sussex since her rooster is an ee. Anyways I picked out the ones that had smaller combs. Genders for these ones?
