I think this is a silver based white Amer. Hatched from our Ameraucana's egg. I don't know why she keeps producing these. Same hen every time. Elongated green eggs -_- Not impressed with her.


But anyhow, sould follow the same general rules. I believe it's a pullet became of the small pale pea comb. Her sibling born on July4 already has a large pink comb and the attitude to match. But his comb is single.

So just want to be sure she is a lovely white with a lavender tint around each feather.

These two are 13 weeks old and I want to say pullet - but after reading about the coloring, etc... and that their dad is completely white, I am stumped. The rest of the EE's we have that are their age already either have a large pea comb or they don't. But they aren't exactly EE's, some are EE's and some are OE's. They both have green/slate legs. They've been handled since hatching and they are skittish. One acts roo-ish, hard sparring with other roos. Since this is EE specific, I thought I'd ask here. Thank you! Their dad - who was a VERY late bloomer.

They look like pullets to me too. I have 2 15 w pullets and that look like yours, one is white, but both have pea combs. I have two 11w EE cockerels and I found their saddle feathers started today. They have obvious combs, and they've had them since 5 weeks, but their combs are nowhere as big as my 15w cockerels were at the same age. I'm wondering if it's because there are more senior dominant guys around.

They both looks like pullets to me. Having a salmon breast I have never seen in a rooster. Their combs are pinkush, but nothing else signifies them being cockerels. Saddles are smooth and rounded. No brick red coloring in the shoulders either.

The second one looks pullet for sure anyhows. So since the first has the same color pattern, I'd say your chances look good.

I agree. By 13 weeks I think you would expect a more obvious comb. And by 13 weeks, saddle feathers and maybe crowing. EEs are hard by definition since they can be any old big mess of gene pool so you never know what coloring they will get. Someone even crossed EEs with Naked Necks. Given a desirable feature of EEs is their beard and muffs - WHY??

With regard to demeanor: your chicks (now half way to adults

) are working on their pecking order. Though you would think that having lived their entire short lives together that would just naturally sort out as they go along. Could be the pullet challenging the roos will eventually be your alpha hen. It is funny watching my 11 week old girls. One will see a small flying insect somewhere in the direction of another and rush to catch it. The other thinks it is being challenged and does the whole upright, chest out thing so the "rusher" does the same. Breast to breast, they both seem to be saying "I'm not looking away first". Cute when there were two sets of Black Jersey Giant vs White Rock doing "the dance". Then they switched and it was 2 BJG and 2 WRs.

The 3 EEs do it as well but not as much and less likely with the WRs and BJGs. The one EE that has a hint more red on her comb and the only one I was worried might be a roo, is the LEAST likely to get into the fray. In fact, I have to be sneaky when I'm tossing out the night time scratch in their run (barn alley) before they go to roost because she will hang a lot closer to the barn door while the other 6 chicks and 9 three year old hens dash for scratch. If I toss any in her direction every chicken that sees it fly will rush over and the EE will head out the barn door. This does not make the process of putting them away for the night very easy!

I'm new to having chickens and really love the EE I have so I got a couple more but we don't know if they are roos or girls. Tried to go by coloring but not sure now.

The top one is definitely a roo. Second I'm thinking pullet (judging by the color, since the face is in the shadow. Pretty tho!). But the third and fourth also look like roos, sorry...

I was thinking the top one was a boy because of the orange coloring on his shoulder and chest. The others though don't have any orange on them. So I'm not sure

No, but that silver with barring and the black/brown coloring of those two are very common for EE roosters. I don't think hens have those patterns, at least not normally

I agree the top one is is a roo based on the brick/mahogany red shoulder patches and larger more red comb but I don't see where number 3 and 4 are roos. How old are the birds? #3 could have a cockerel comb but with the light shining right on it, it is hard to tell. I would think it would be showing red on the breast if it were a roo and the same age as the first bird.
