One is the EE and the other is a Buff Orp and they develop slower

so I won't get an egg from her for another month I'm sure. Her eggs should be really big I think. But until then I am crossing fingers for my pastel egg!!

I suspect they skipped the winter lay given they were hatched so late in the year. I would expect them to start very soon. Some of my older hens (will be 4 in June) have just started back up.

I was wondering if anybody could help me with my 4 EE's. They are 5 weeks old.

How old are your children?

What happened to Pig's breast feathers? They should be fully feathered at 5 weeks.

I agree on Pickle being male. I can't say either way on Sparkles, no straight on comb shot.

Thank you for your response. Here is a straight shot of sparkle and a better shot of pigs chest feathers. Looks to me that there is still a little bit of fluff. They just under 5 weeks by a day or two, I hope it's not anything to worry about.

Ah, I thought you were asking about my actual children, but I couldn't figure out how you knew I had children. So, I decided to just address the chest feathers instead. Of course the names are dead give aways to having children. My son is 3 and these are our first chickens so he loves them. 3 boys out of 17 straight runs chicks is not bad.

On a side note and a quick story (in case anyone is interested

I will just assume you all are) While out of town our sitter who lets them out and feed them while we are gone is a teenage daughter of our good friends/neighbors, she couldn't find a chicken and ran home frantic saying "OMG I lost one!!" The dad our good friend said "Relax Ally, they're just chickens they keep for eggs! It's not like they are real pets!" When we got back (the chicken was found hiding) he tells us the story and my husband goes "Well actually each of the chickens she named after her great grandmothers, grandmothers and aunts!!" His deer in the headlights look was priceless.

The comb is starting to turn pink, and the shoulders are very patchy, with some red just starting to come in. I think it's probably a boy.

While it is too early to be 100% certain, it looks like you have a cockerel. The red patches on the wings, pink three row comb, and overall unevenness are all shouting ''I'm a boy!''

Hello all! Just checking in to see if you all have an educated guess on this one, it is 4 weeks old.

It's still to soon to tell gender, but so far it has a nice even coloring, and small comb, which makes me lean toward pullet. Can you post another photo in 2-3 weeks?
