Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I could go pullet on that one as well. Of course the black and whites are the harder EEs to judge early.
Thank you, Bruce. I think I’m learning my lesson not to pick the “unique” looking chicks from the pullet bin. My thought was that since it was safe to assume they were pullets, I wanted to pick interesting ones. But when it seemed like I had managed to get 3 out of 4 cockerels, first I blamed TSC for mislabeling their chicks. Then I realized that since there is a 10-20% failure rate in chick sexing, any pullet bin is likely to have a few cockerels, and by picking the unique ones, I probably weeded out the mistakes for the next customer. But I am glad there is still hope for my 3 black and white “pullets”. (The 4th one was most definitely a beautiful girl, but I opened the coop one morning to find her dead!:hit)

I have a few who are keeping me guessing. The first I think is a pullet, the second a cockerel (Hopefully not) and the third I just don’t know. They are 12 weeks old. Pullet bin from Tractor Supply.

Wow, your #3, the flashy black and white one is identical to my Pepper!! Scroll up on this page and see the pics of both. I got my two EEs from TS too, they are 10 weeks old. I was concerned about both maybe being cockerels. Others here have told me both are pullets. 👍💕😏🙂

I thought the same thing when I saw your post and that gave me hope that mine is a pullet, too!

I miss my pretty one. These photos were taken shortly before she died:

Thanks.

I don’t know what happened. I just opened the coop door one morning and there she was dead.

So I am curious what you all think of my chicks on there genders. 2 I think may be male so far and 2 and maybe even 3 seem to be hens. not sure on one though. they are all at about 4.5 weeks give or take in these pictures.

Here is Annabelle
I think she is definitely a hen based off coloring. but I could be wrong.

Here is Dottie

Here is Maverik
the day after I took these pictures he(she) developed red right under the comb so i think a roo.

Here is Sparky

Here is Ziggy
I do believe based off coloring she will be a hen which hopefully I am right as she absolutely loves cuddling her and squirt are the friendliest out of all of them

As of today I have had them one month and I'm pretty sure they were a few days to even half a week when I got them. I am hoping to at least have 4 hens out of the 6. Let me know what you all think of them.

so here they are a week later from when i took these pictures. still only 100% on Sparky being a cockerel. Though I still think Maverik could also be a cockerel and maybe Squirt. I am hoping that at least Squirt, Dotty, Annabelle are pullets, and I am fairly certain that Ziggy is a pullet. I would be nice is Maverik is also a pullet but I have no idea yet.

Here is Annabelle at about 5.5 weeks

Squirt and Ziggy are the most trust worthy as they will just let me pick them up, Dotty is starting to warm up to me and will let me pick her up sometimes and pet her, the rest still don,t care to be touched by me, but Maverik does like to perch on my hand sometimes. and Squirt is almost caught up in feather development, still a little sparse though. so any ideas on what they are?

also looking at these pictures, if neck length means anything maybe its only sparky and Squirt that are the cockerels, they have some serous neck length going on there.

Based on feather patterning and comb shape I'd go with pullet on all but Sparky (I'd be REAL surprised if that one lays an egg). I look forward to seeing his final coloring.

And I don't know about Squirt, the feathers are still too sparse to see the patterning but the comb looks promising.
