That would be a great idea as long as Hoho does not crow. I know some roos start crowing as early as 8 weeks and others don't crow
for quite a while longer. But that is a thought. Thanks for the tip.

any ideas on how to get weight on these EEs I bought ( prev pics) I got their mites all cleared up and they are eating they really have good appitites but when i pick them up their just bones..?? I dont know if the prev owner wormed them or not.. could it be that? could they have worms and thats why I cant get weight on them and also their feathers are dull? I have thme on really good feed and additives for health ?

is there something else I can give them for weight. ( they are on layena layer crumbles, laying mash, scratch grains, they also get daily goodies of something healthy fruit or veggi, nuts or seeds. )

Blue and Gold, technically. Like almost all EE's, he's an unrecognized color, however he does carry blue and both gold and silver genes, making him a blue and gold duckwing, likely with other stuff in there too.

@Pink,
How old are they? Mine felt bony until they were about 7 weeks or so. I'd try to give them lots of what ever they love, but would worry that they then might not eat their regular feed. Mine like cooked eggs, meal worms and corn right off the cobs. From what I understand you don't want to get them too heavy either. I guess if they are happy and acting normally they will eat and grow as the please.

good point.. the happier they get and the safer they feel they will gain weight.. makes sense.. the lady said they were spring hatch Im guessing sometime in april. maybe late march? there are really getting the hang of goodie time and have recognize that every one else eats from my hands and they are little by little reaching out.. too.. Im hoping the scratch grains will help them a good bit... will it matter if I give them chick crumbles rather than layer crumbles is there more fat content in the chick starter? maybe I can switch them over to that..

this weekend at the 4-H show and sale.. the EE's ( they call americanas with an i I guess) were all the color of Twinkie over 30 of them all her coloring.. very pretty..

would they be called Wheat? or cream?

Love this thread! I have 2 questions about sexing my EE chicks. Do 3 row pea combs (especially ones that are pink already) always mean boy? Do narrow tails always mean boy as well? My 6 EEs are 3ish weeks old - 3 of them have narrow/pointy tails and 2 of those also have pink 3-row combs. I'm especially wondering about the one with the narrow tail, but no noticeable comb, the smallest of the bunch, thin legs, more hen-like stance... What do you think?

Twinkie is probably is cream color and is not an Ameraucana. She is just an easter egger. They are really pretty when they are
that off white color with some red in them. I also like the wheat color as well but have not seen any available. Tomorrow, I am
picking up two more easter eggers that are about 9 weeks old. We will see if I get a wheat color one.

@Pink...

I think that you should stick with the layer simply because of their approx. age. If they are spring chickens they are about 4 mos old and should be getting ready to lay? The layer has the needed calcium they'll need for healthy egg production. Just my $0.02.

@suburban

do you have any pictures?
