Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Sorry, but me neither one. I prefer the beards on my Easter Eggers.
But I gues if that was all I had to choose from I'd keep the lighter one and find plenty of bearded ladies (Easter Egger or Ameruacanas) and put with him and raise a few and keep a bearded rooster to put over them.
JMHO.

Well both had the puffed cheeks a few weeks ago, doesn't the beard grow in later? My roos are only 5 weeks old.

I bought these from a local backyard breeder who had bred from the same stock for years so I thought what I might do is order a couple EE pullets from Meyer with my Aug. order to introduce some new genetics and hopefully stronger chicks. Thanks for the input. Is there a specific reason you suggest the light roo?

Mine have always had them from hatch on. Well sometimes they get plucked out by other chickens but you can usually see where the beard is.

I don't know, maybe they'll grow back in.

EE's hatch with a clean face, a light beard or a thick beard. Clean faced won't suddenly turn into an EE with a beard unfortunately.

If you are wanting to run a breeding flock of EE, I wouldn't buy stock from a hatchery. You are likely to get nothing but game bird colored EE to one degree or another. If you watch Craig's list often you can find EE for sale. They are almost always labeled incorrectly. Here on BYC in the buy sell area there are usually EE hatching eggs for sale, and or chicks and adults.

Personally I wouldn't use a clean face since it passes on the clean face gene to part of the off spring. Our Roos were selected because we liked their colors (EE Roos) and size. All have a full beard.

Wondering if anyone would mind looking at the pictures I posted on post #780 at the bottom of page 78. (Pretty please!?!?!)

I originally was not going to get EEs. I shared an order with a friend and all she wanted were the EEs. Well, needless to say, after we got them, I asked if I could swap a few with her to be able to have some in my flock. If I were to go into breeding them, I would definitely go with the ones with muffs on them! That is just so cute on them!
Thanks!

Sunflowergirl- they all look like girls, and yes, they look like the standard EE female color. They've definitely got some kind of pattern gene but I'm not sure it qualifies as partridge. It looks more like the gold duckwing pattern, but someone with more genetics knowledge is sure to chime in.
