Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

I'm no expert, but the longer your chicken's comb stays fleshy colored, the better. I have seen some posts of chickens at 5 weeks old that had obvious red combs. So far yours is looking pulletish to me. Good luck. I am sitting on the roo/pullet fence with an 8 week old Marans. It's driving me crazy not knowing what it is. I don't want a roo! But, I hate thinking about having to give it up! Only time will tell.

I know I can't even think of giving her/him away!!! I got her in late april and I think she was about a month old maybe a little older but where not sure!!! So her age is sorta iffy!!

I had two that looked similar and they both turned out to be boys. I couldn't tell the gender until they were 12-14 weeks old. The one with the black muffs was close to 15 weeks before he developed any type of indication he was a roo, very late developing!

I have an update of my EE that I reaaaaaly want to be a girl! Frankie is 5.5 weeks in these photos.

I do NOT like this photo. this photo screams Rooster to me... but what do i know!

Man-handling her to try to get a better shot!

Sorry, but Frankie looks like a boy to me.

The bright pink comb and the patchy distribution of white on the wings looks like boys that have been shown before. If you look at the black & white hen 2 posts before your last, you can see that the colors are spread very evenly. Start checking Frankie for any signs of red patches coming in on the upper wings. That would be the last roo indicator prior to crowing.

I am not at all an expert, especially on the blk & wt EEs. Since this bird is such a favorite, don't do anything rash until you're sure. You never know......

I just found out that my black and white is a Roo at 8 weeks. I had hope until he crowed yesterday. Spread Frankies wings to expose his or her back. My Black and White "Mannie" started getting brownish saddle feathers that I was trying to ignore until I caught him crowing....lol He still shows no red or brown patches on his overall body color, just tiny reddish brown

saddle feathers in there...

Sorry he turned out to be a roo, but he is one of the prettiest black and whites I've seen! I have two and they don't look like anything special to me. My experience though is that sometimes the ugliest chicks make the prettiest roos!
