Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Roos? These guys are 7 weeks old or so. I couldn't get a good face pic of the guy on the right, but both their combs are pretty identical in seze, color, and shape.
The first 2 pics (same guy I think) is are roos... not sure on the other, but if the comb looks like the second pic, I would say roo.

x2 The chick in the second pic has a large pink comb for a 7 weeker. Shows that he is a cockerel. Can't really see the others. Pullet combs will be pale and much less prominent.

From the advice that I have had on my 7 week olds, I would say that the one top right is definitely a roo, with a comb that large :)

So another one of those darn black and white EEs, 13-14 weeks old. I'm leaning towards pullet (s/he's from a straight run), but that little bit of brown flecking in the feathers and the size of the comb have me nervous, though at least it isn't bright pink.

Just an update, there were lots of pullet guesses and some cockerel guesses, the cockerels were correct. Took a while to be sure but about the time the golden hackle/saddle feathers showed up, so did the big red splotches on the wings and back.

Just wanted to update on my tiny baby that I wasn't sure was going to make it through the first weekend:

Day 1:

2-3 weeks

5 Weeks -

7 Weeks - Feathers finally in!

Another size comparison - lol!

Today! Ready to make the confirmation that "Little One" is a pullet!

Hi. The upper photo is of my two Easter Eggers/Ameraucanas, the lower one of the girl (?) in question. I thought they were both pullets. The older of the two (by about 2 weeks) has really grown a comb and wattles! Can pullets have combs & wattles? S/he is not aggressive, doesn't crow, or do anything that I think roos do. What do you think????

Hi Our girls. Both are pullets. Combs and wattles on a pullet will get larger and redder the closer she is to laying her first egg, so the girl in your bottom pic may be presenting you with yummy eggs soon! This girl has a single comb and wattles, which do not show a strong Ameraucana genetic influence (pea combs, absent wattles, and the muffs/beards come from the Ameraucana breed, as do the blue eggs), so do not be too surprised if she does not carry the blue egg gene. Both remind me of Brown Leghorns, so this may be what they were crossed with. One with a pea comb is more likely to lay blue/green eggs.

At their age (I'm guessing close to 4 months), if they were roosters you would see saddle and hackle feathers developing. Another way to judge sex is by the color pattern, which in this case is the partridge pattern for a female. Males are much flashier and do not have this subdued female pattern.
