The males always seem to be more personable for the first few weeks. Later the females start to become more bold and demanding of your attention, while the males start to shy away or challenge you.

I also had to rehome a mis-sexed cockerel, so I understand. It helps to think that he may not be as cuddly and personable in a few months, anyway, and that you gave him a good chick-hood. The girls will soon distract you with their antics and eggs.
