This is hawk, a 3-4 year old Easter Egger. She is extremely flighty, a loner, and will not hesitate to beat you with her wings. She has a recurring issue with her vent. She gets poop stuck and caked on rock hard on, around, and inside her vent. I can no longer keep up with bi weekly baths and dealing with her attitude.
I want to rehome her with only a promise that she won’t be culled unless absolutely necessary. She’s a beautiful bird and I swear she helps keep hawks away from the flock due to her coloring, I just can’t continue dealing with this issue. She needs someone more experienced with sick birds than I am and this arrangement is no longer working out.
Located in Brevard county FL, must show proof of proper chicken keeping abilities (safe coop, proper food, etc.)

Aww this makes me feel sad but I understand. If I had more room I would take her. I'm in Indian River county so I'm fairly close. I have a hen with the same issue. It's just her. I had to trim her feathers around her vent. I have to keep up with this girl and keeping her vent area clean. She has a disability with her tail. She was born with a misshapen tail and her feathers only point down. She's unable to raise her tail properly. My hen eats her eggs and I only keep her because she is SO loving. She loves to give hugs and I just can't let her go.

I hope you find a good home for your hen. If I had the space I would since I already have the routine. There has to be someone close who can take her.

Thank you for the kind words! I’m not sure why this happens to her, or how she even lived this long. I’ve only had her for 4-5 months and given her baths regularly. Her previous owner was pretty hands off and when I took her on the owner said “This is the second time any of us have held her. The first time is when we brought her here as a baby”. It’s a miracle she’s lived this long and hasn’t died from and obstruction or infection. I’ve cut away a ton of her feathers as well, but nothing helps. I’d be more open to keeping her if she was nicer, but every time I bathe her it’s like going to war. I have to ambush her in the coop at night, dodge her ridiculously sharp claws, dodge her beak because she likes to try to take a chunk out of my arms, and I end up covered in scratches, soaked head to toe in poopy water and questioning all of my life choices. It’s extremely stressful on the both of us and I already have enough stress in my life😔.
