I live in southeast Texas and I was wondering if anyone had experiance with EEs down here. Information I have read ont he breed says they are fine for any climate, which I thought would be good because you can start the day in shorts and end it in a snow suit around here. : )

Im in central Texas and EVERYBODY has them here. Seems like a hen house staple around here. So we know they can stand the heat.....Now we need to know if they can stand the cold.

hello...i live in south texas just by the border with mexico....i have 2 ee's and i haven't had any problems with them down here neither with heat nor cold....

We're next door to you in the desert with the high high heat and the cold. They do just fine in either. When summer hits, we do lots of frozen treats and frozen milk jug "stations" that they can get around to get cooler. They should be just fine! Enjoy them! :)

Frozen milk jugs? just give them something to get next to when it gets hot? I figured for sure putting ice in the water for them and maybe fans, but never thought about the milk jugs..

Ice in the water melts within minutes, seriously, even if both of the waterers get full of ice. It's just too hot for ice to last any amount of time when you get up at 6 am and it's already pushing 80 degrees. With the milk jugs, you can freeze several and alternate them out, place them at numerous points in the shade, and they can huddle around them or stand on them to get cool. Surprisingly works like a charm for us, and then when they start to leak, you can pitch them. Even though my breeds are heat tolerant, there comes a point when anything consistently over 95 for months on end is just too hot and really gets old. I hate to see my girls out there panting and wings spread early in the morning, when you know it's just going to get hotter and hotter.
