Easter eggers not laying yet

but what is little frail me going to do with a rat once I catch it - please tell me they terrify me
Even dead ones?
Snap traps are the way to go.
Gotta learn how to set them without breaking a finger tho...

Snap traps are the way to go.

They have plastic ones that are far easier to set now, just step on one side and it sets. To "unset" it I just poke a branch onto the lever and let it snap shut.

I had to listen to hubby cursing and hollering trying to set up old fashioned snap traps. Was too terrified of the trap to do it myself!

They have mouse traps like that too....but the springs are so weak that they don't don't kill well...and are so light the non dead mouse can crawl away dragging the trap with it.

Worked well enough with our rat problem (I suppose if you have giant ones it might be a problem).

Electric traps are actually my favorite (mess free) but I haven't seen any intended for use outdoors. We had to build a cover for ours when we were using it outside.
 
Easter Eggers take a long time to mature. They will not start laying until they are 8 months old. I'm not sure how winter weather effects the maturity rate.
