My hubby hates bantam roosters! He says the crows are too high pitched...so that's why I got rid of all of my bantam cochins! I was able to keep my silkie roo though!

Cathy, I know what you mean.. he hehehehehhe I think I have mine talked into converting a 3 stall run in shed on my dad's farm into a grow out for standard laying pullets. ..complete with auto-waterer and auto-feeder

I've even thought of buying sexed chicks at the feed store and just growing them out for a couple months...

That's awesome for those of us who don't want anything to do w/babies! Although I find myself looking at incubators and reading hatching tips alot here lately. But for now, I am resisting.

Hi Carol...those were my 2 babies. They hatched the second week in June. I just had 6 more hatch yesterday, with 13 more in the bator! Putting 2 dz bcm's in tonight! So much fun! Hope you enjoy the new babies! They look really cute! It was very nice to meet you! Can't wait to see you in the fall!

Cathy, thanks. All my other babies are about 6 wks or so now so the little ones have our heart (even my DH the chicken hater loves the babies). They do not like it if I leave the room. I am getting them slowly aquainted with some of the older chicks and the 3 broody mommas-to-be are in the room too but not a problem. I am really glad I got them even though I have about 15 baby silkies already and more on the way if the girls do a good job. They are the only white ones though. Looking forward to the fall event and seeing you and the others again.

Orpygal, I'm glad you and others don't want anything to do with babies, because now that I've had chickens for over a year I find that the part I like the best is hatching and growing out the babies. My DH, who is nagging me constantly to "get rid of the chickens" would probably accept the idea of growing out babies. I am finding all aspects of chickens fascinating and can't imagine being without them now.

I use a Dickey incubator, which has a 296 egg capacity. Three turners plus a hatching tray allows a rotation for weekly hatch if you wish. Also equipped it with an auto-humidity system.

hth,

i should of showed you the incubator i ues last time you visited our small small farm , it says it holds 24 but marans eggs but its tight 20 is best ..... its so clean looking it looks like a bread maker or something it auto temp, auto humidity and auto turn .complettly totaly auto everything , just set it and forget it .. personaly i never candle eggs ever and marans are dark to see into even if u like to open the lid its gets back to temp in 5 seconds .its made of hard dish washer safe plastic carbon fiber or something .. it fits on your kitchen counter and works well the bator is called "king suro 20 " if u or anyone interested , i dont sell them but i like them the cost i think is 250.00 or so

So sorry about that. As my brother Randy said, we didn't even notice with those younger chicks because they had been in the care of our broody silkie. When we hatch them ourselves, it's so much easier to inspect the chicks. When they are running around with the hen, it's hard to get a good look at the little buggers! Like Randy says, just give us a call in a few months, and we'll offer up a feather legged female as soon as we can get some more going. We had taken a bit of a break from hatching since we were overrun with chicks, never realizing that they would go so quickly at the chickenstock. But now we know, and we will get cracking with the hatches! It is very pleasing how sweet the birds are though (regardless of leg feathering!!). Even the roos are sweetie pies.

My girl from you doesn't have leg feathers either. Honestly I didn't even notice til I had posted a pic of her on my Facebook acct and someone asked me about it. I love her to death though and wouldn't consider replacing her

You raise sweet and pretty birds. She isn't for show, except showing her off to family, so I am not worried about any faults! She was well worth the money and I am tickled to have found her! Thanks for taking the time to grow out such pretty, healthy birds and then bring them to the swap!

She was trying to eat after a long trip home, while making sure her coopmates weren't going to eat her lol.
