Anyone ever thought about making a large shelf on one of the sides of their coop, placing individual nest boxes(with no bottom) that lay on the shelf- putting nest material in them of course. Then as a hen becomes broody, simply put a wooden framed "cage" that slips right over the nest box and lays on the shelf. This gives the broody space to poop out the nest box but without the trouble of moving her. This is much better then my old sliding cage door on the nest boxes.
LOL
Anyone think this is a good idea? And, when its the 20th day or so, you can (1st move the cage on top) move th nest box off the hen and keep the cage on the shelf so no chicks get outside the nest box and get too cold.
