a freind of ours has a 150-175 chickens and "makes ' her own from eggs. she told us to use a water bottle like you feed a hamster with. The type that hang up side down with a steel ball and tube on the bottom, We thought she was nuts. Then she said. " I have 20-25 chicks at any one time. and that is all I use.." The wife and I said OK, lets try it, first day out of the shell.. and they can and Do drink out of it.. I was impressed. try it if you like. It works for our chicks. LOT BETTER THAN Our other chicks that are now older, I used the normal upside down bottle with tray? you know what I mean, They poop in it get all kinds of stuff in it.. I am watching the babys drink from it now.. amazing..

I just saw a fellow watering his hens with those and I thought I should give it a try. You can put the nipple ends on a 2 liter coke bottle as well and then you don't have to worry about it going empty so quickly. Awesome!

think this would work on older chicks?
i was planning on putting a rabbit food dispensor on the wall inside the coop and was looking for something for water as well. I didn't think that they would have been able to drink out of one of the bottles....

You can actually get a whole package of nipples for what you pay for one small watering bottle for rabbits. They come five in a pack and they are built specifically for ducks and chickens and you can mount them into just about any kind of container....I've even seem them mounted on the bottom of a syrup bottle.

Ebay has them for $3.46, I think, with free shipping....let me find that link....

They are red so that the chicks will peck at them and learn how to use them...and it works! They waste less water than the ball nipples on rabbit bottles and they are more versatile, not to mention cheaper.

I actually ran out of water containers when I got my 75 cornish X's. I had some that needed to be cleaned but they were not in the barn so I gave my meat birds the bigger waterers and gave my younger chicks the 2 rabbit bottles I had in the brooder room with me and they do find with them. I have 2 that I hung outside the grow out pen and just have to fill them once a day but as the temps get a little warmer here in Texas I have been checking on the a couple times a day. Its so much easier than having to change the 1 quarts all the time.
i plan on getting me the nipples for the 5 gallon buckets for the full size chickens.

I am going to look in to the nipples. I like nipples. It just sounds better.. than a rabitt waterer,,lol But I was shocked when our freind said that rabbit waters is all she uses.. I was amazed the chicks just did it.. no goofing around "teaching them they just knew how.. I was amazed..
