easy way to dust for mites???

use an old stocking, fill with seven dust or Food grade de. and slap them good under the wings and esp the vent area. or do like i do and just take handfuls of DE and pull feathers back and rub on, but I also add DE to nests, roost and floor. LOTS OF DE. marrie

I was told to
1. get a small trash can with a lid
2. put some Q10 dusting powder inside
3. then a chicken
4. more powder on top of chicken
5. close lid
6. SHAKE!!!..... but gently

Sorry but please don't put the chicken in a trash can with dust and then shake. The chicken will breath in the poison and God knows what will happen.

The stocking trick does a good job or you can set up a dusting station. I use my wheel barrow or you could use a table. Have someone hold the chicken for you, sprinkle the dust on the important parts like under the wing, near the vent and the back of the neck and breast. Then run your fingers through the feathers and shake back and forth gently to work the powder down to the base of the feather shaft where the mites like to hide and eat. You can alos stand the chicken in a large plastic tub so any powder that falls off can be reused.

Don't forget to treat any wooden surfaces and cracks and roosts in the coop. The mites like to hide there during the day and come out as sucking vampires at night. Dust the nest boxes really well too.
