eaten up crusty vents what causes this?

what kind of mites fleas cause the eaten up and crusty vents in chickens??? Also After a chickens vent has been eaten and attacked by mites can it still heal? Some of the hens i bought vents are deformed from such bad mite infestations~!

Eaten up crusty vents? Perhaps picking from other birds or self picking. As bad as it sounds, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Clean up the pest problem and let them heal. They are strong so can probably pull though if they don't have too many other problems.

yes i dont think the vents ever totally heal as in the crap always sticks to the chewed up vents>>?
