I have read through the threads and just can't seem to figure out a couple of my chickens.....the EE's are so confusing to sex! I want to start thinking about weeding out my flock - I really only want to keep one rooster - but I'm fairly certain that I have at least 3 in my flock of 29 right now (I am positive 2 of my 4 Buff's are roo's)......I just need some opinions. I have a few in question - but I only got decent pictures of three this morning. Ooh - and they are about 5 weeks old and getting ready to move into their new home this weekend. :)

This first one I am pretty sure is a roo.....

Next - I'm really hoping this isn't a roo - I just love the coloring.

This is Mrs. Howell. I'm really hoping she doesn't turn out to be a Mr. Howell. :)

Thanks!

Well what I can tell you, is that #2 and #3 don't look like roosters to me.

#1 looks like a cockerel
#2 I'm on the fence about. I used to have a black and white EE hen, she looked alot like your little bird.
#3 looks like a pullet
Those are my guesses, I'm no expert though. Good luck!

I just learned an old trick, that had been passed down, hold the chick by its feet one foot in one hand one foot in the other hand, let the chick hang down head to the ground,if the chick tries to roll back up to your hands ,it is most likely a hen if the chick just hangs down it is most likely a rooster.

That is an old wive's tale, and untrue. All you will weed out are chicks that are too docile or weak to fight improper handling. Hens and roosters have the exact same muscle groups as they are the same species.

I agree with Lots A Cluckin's guess.
