eating pine needles...

Our chickens won't eat pine needles but like the male pinecone which produces the pollen they are very small and they use to eat them like cereal. I quess the novelty has warn off though. I have heard the pine nuts are considered a fruit.

Yea, I think it was speckled hen that said something about the salt content in cat food that is not a good thing for chickens. Our birds freerange during the day surounded by pines and that is the one thing we have had no problem with.
