Eating

I do not give them grit. I use washed and strained river sand in the run and coop so the small pebbles can act like grit for them. I think if they have access to little pebbles that should be fine without grit. And I think I have heard that people do not use grit if there is oyster shell available. It also depends. My girls like a smaller grit type of pebble and the oyster shell would not work for them as grit, so it also depends on your flock

Yes...oyster shell is for calcium and it dissolves, and rounds off fairly quickly. Grit hangs in there as it isn't supposed to dissolve much..if any.
Sooooo..make grit available if they eat anything outside of crumbles, mash or pellets.. with no discernable sizes of any grains in them....that grain will pass thru and be wasted..
