economical feed - what does everyone use?

That was in addition to what you stated....
regulates the amount of feed that there chickens eat and don't over feed proteins you would be surprised how much money you can save.

...and I added

and how much less health problems associated with the overfeeding of proteins...and just overfeeding in general.

Rest easy...you weren't being stung...

You might try to do a little research on Korean Natural Farming techniques. I've been learning about it myself recently. Basically they make a homemade feed from garden by-products, etc., chopped or shredded and mixed and fermented with "IMO #4" (which is a homemade beneficial microbial preparation used in KNF), or something similar, like EM-1, should do the same thing. In a nutshell I think that the basic recipe is 1/3 green matter, 1/3 "fruit" and starch foods and scraps, and 1/3 commercial feed mix. I don't know that much about it myself, but I've heard great things from people who use it, and it sounds really interesting... Seems to be very economical and versatile and flexible too depending on what ingredients are available as long as you follow the basic ratio, and obviously don't use anything poisonous...
