Last night we had some major storms here Major Thunder storms. I worked till 10 last night and I admit when I came home I went straight to bed. My miniature horse Eddie was just fine when I went to work at 2pm. I worked today all day and came home at 3pm to a distraught husband. Edward had escaped sometime in the night and was no where to be found. He had looked for hours combing the field behind the house and corn field next to the house and when I got home I spent an hour in the soybean field across the road, We can't find even a sign of ed. No horse poop, no hoof prints no eddie. We can't even tell if he jumped the hog fencing we use as the front of his pen or somehow climbed through or under the barb wire that borders the cow pasture to the back. We have had him for 6 months and have not had a problem.
What else can we do? Will he come home? Do they have a since of where home is or is he hopelessly lost?

I am very sorry to hear about Eddie. I would strongly recommend letting any animal control in the area know he is on the loose. They may have gotten a call about him showing up at someone elses house. He may not come home, but he will investigate a neighbors house if he happens to run into one. He may be more inclined to follow a road vrs. going through woods. I would also call the county or state police ( who ever is friendlier) to let them know Eddie got out. They may have also recieved a call. You don't want him by major roads or highways.

Do you know where the nieghbors are? I would go to each house and ask if they have seen him. How easy is he to catch? Is he wearing a halter? Take a halter, lead rope, and a small bucket so if you do find him, you may be able to catch him. Put something in the bucket that makes noise like corn, pellets, or even some gravel (just for the noise, not to eat) If you have fed him out of a bucket, he may associate the noise with food.

I really hope you find him

Yes I agree Put up fliers, talk to anyone and everyone about your horse.

maybe someone who you least expect would know something about his whereabouts.

Good Luck!

call anybody nearby WITH horses. If they are scarred they want a herd. I hope you find him I have had a few escapes here but we get them back. when you do get him back keep a close eye on him. I know a lot of crops are ready to be harvested he may have overindulged.
