I have never seen this, or had this problem. I have frequently seen adolescent roosters being obnoxious to pullets. I think the hen died of genetic malfunction internally. Sudden death syndrome.
I am sorry for their loss of the hen, but I do not think has anything at all to do with the removing the rooster.
