The only stupid question is the one not asked.

GOOD MORNING! THIS IS THE DAY THAT THE LORD HAS MADE! LET'S REJOICE, AND BE GLAD IN IT... AND COFFEE!

(I really do thank Him for coffee!)

Good morning!!!! Look what arrived yesterday!

So I can bring my own to Abi's Coffeehouse!

Quote: I got chickens after my geriatric dog and cat finally died of old age/cancer. The amount of money it cost to maintain them in the best of times (when they weren't sick and didn't have big medical bills) was pretty hefty. So I must admit, I haven't been very good about eyeing the cost of chickens - I justify them as another big group of pets somehow...

Well, I had a restless night (worrying about how to pull off the chicken rearrangements), and finally got up at 5am and pulled the GNH girls off the roosts and put them in the chicken hospital to wait. Then I pulled the Speckled Sussex off the roost (and away from poor Tank) and put them in a crate in the car. Had some coffee and then delivered the SS to a friend who will spoil them silly. When I came home, poor Tank was wandering around wondering where his girls had gone, so I introduced his new girls, the three GNH. As gentlemanly as he can be normally, he was a little too excited to be polite and there was a bit of chasing. It has settled down a bit, but the poor guy alternates between chasing/attempting to mount and staring off into space, as if to ask, "Do you mean I have to figure out this girl stuff all over again?!" Poor fella...

I'm awake early and there's lots to do - I wish I didn't feel like crawling back into bed instead.

@Sally Sunshine Hi! I have to sell at least three of them to pay for the does. I borrowed money from my vacation fund to buy them knowing that I could sell the kids for enough to pay for the does.
oh great way to set up things dax!

great idea!

The TJ eggs were due to hatch today, and I tend if anything to gets slightly early hatches.
These guys did not hatch and look a ways off being ready. I checked the temp and it is 100 as always (brinsea cabinet). The Bator is in the basement where it has been for 2 years.
I wonder if the age of the eggs, and the fact that they were washed and chilled could affect development in this way. It seems mighty strange.
There were a huge number that developed blood rings early on but that is to be expected.
We shall see what happens tomorrow.

hmmm sounds funky Phage. Wonder if the thermo is going in the cabinet?

Well in my little world of economic decision making I decided that I am keeping this four and a half month old heifer. I really think she is very nice (500+ already plus confirmation pictured with 1500+ lb mama).

Thus I had to get enough money together to buy a weanling steer for the freezer next fall. I have not named him yet, but it will be something like Tim (turn into meat). He is OK. Angus Hereford cross, though personally I prefer CharAngus they get better butts and thus more meat.

@ MC your allowed to laugh, laughter makes the world a better place
yeppers!!

@lovechicks1293

another economic decision I will have to make is:

Do I replace the batteries in my solar fence charger (electric fence) , the last set lasted three summers
or
buy a charger that plugs into the barn's circuit.
or
get rid of the chickens because the cost has gone through the roof
no need to rid of chickens just find a cheaper way of keeping them!
