EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Welcome
You are welcome too!
Good morning!
My ducks were happy to come outside, but the chickens all stayed in until I threw out the scratch!
You probably will believe this. I thought it was ridiculous to not go ahead and get the bigger bottle of Jack since I was getting the bigger bottle of the other two. However, I decided that I already looked like enough of an alcoholic mom. My purse was open with diapers, wipes, a sippy cup and extra pants sitting on top. As she was ringing me up, I pulled a horse out of my flannel pocket. So, I thought that getting a smaller bottle made me look like less of a bad person. :lau
Are you in my house?! I took care of the flock, did the dishes, did some laundry, and ignored making the bed. I guess this is what happens when you drink Abigail the night before!

:lau more Abbey please
All extra eggs are sold here. The hens do get the weak shelled, pecked or obviously dirty ones fed back in the bone soup.

I honestly cannot believe I still have Internet. It went out last night a few times. So far, it has not gone out today. That wind is brutal!
I seriously need to cover the windows with plastic. I can feel a breeze coming in from almost all of the windows.

Plastic does a great job. Once while working for a rancher we had "free" lodging at his place. It was a tiny mobile home which when it was windy the blinds would raise about 6" from the sill. The wind usually never stoped there. Fun times.

It's a really nice day here... Garden got a late start this year, because I had let it get overgrown all last year, and had to hack everything out of the beds. Still working on that, reclaiming them one by one.

If I get either turkeys or goats, this is a nice area of my yard that I might use for them.

Overall view (see how overgrown some parts are?!) On the far left are asparagus beds that need to be weeded.

Collards looking really good (Bulldog in the front, Vates in the back) - just about big enough to start harvesting leaves. I love collards, and they are so easy to grow, hot or cold weather... (The little spinach transplants are sitting there as well). Today I'm planting turnips and radishes in the center of the bed, and kohlrabi on the ends and between the collars. Peas will be at the end climbing a trellis.

Young dino kale and some garlic I planted early (some elephant garlic at the end). Kohlrabi and red russian kale to be added to this bed today.

Lemongrass that I really need to tame (this is taller than I am). I'm going to dig is ALL up, trim and harvest (leaves to dry for tea, stalks to freeze for soups, etc.). I'll keep several starters and put them in pots to regrow (but NOT ever in a garden bed again!). Beleaguered asparagus behind it.

This is a 6 year old rosemary plant that is completely out of control. I'm severely cutting it back and then planting some more herbs in this bed. I'm going to plant rosemary as a landscape plant elsewhere in the front yard with lavender - they get so big!!!

Goal is to get the plants in, clean up of the mess all around comes after that... Lots to do...

I've got 4 types of broccoli going right now - it does extremely well here over winter. (Hard to grow in spring - too hot.)

I should really get out there and start working...
