EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Hi everyone. My wonderful darling husband who's favorite question to me these days is " So how many chickens do you plan on having when all is said and done?" presented me with an early Christmas gift of a Brinsea Mini Eco incubator. Yep, he's a great guy.

I'm not planning to break it in till March when I plant to incubate 7 or 8 of my Buff O/Welsummer eggs to give to an Amish neighbor who gave me 8 eggs in September to stick under my broody hen some pullets and a cockerel or two. His flock is mainly OEGB and bantam Cochin crosses. He needs meat birds so I plan to give him a start of birds that will provide his family with meat and eggs.

So I have been hanging around reading the great information about incubating (so much great information to absorb. I think my brains hurt from all of it) and plan to drop in from time to time if y'all don't mind.

good news!!

@Ladyfarm
  you very welcome!   Yes, dont go below 20% at any point.  remember you can candle more than days 7 14 18 to keep better track of the air cells.  just start to candle every other day from day 10 and stop when you see drawdown.  or lockdown.

you know you will have to run the best humidity for the MAJORITY of the hatch.  Dont ever make changes for just one egg.

Questions just tag me and I am sure Paddler and the others can help you plenty as well!!

Good luck!!

I had quite a few eggs where the air cell didn't look sufficient enough. I only have 5 eggs left out of the 8 I set and only 1 of the eggs air cell looked ok.

This is my first time incubating and as much as I love it, and find it fasinating, I'm not sure I will do it again real soon! Lol. Very stressful! Maybe it gets easier the more you do it, but man, I have been obsessing over eggs for the last 16 days!
