I've golfed in some pretty bad weather, too.

Gotta use a brightly colored ball though in a snow storm. To easy to lose the white ones.

@ocap Hi, do you or your wife have a suggestion about a decent inexpensive compass? I can't afford a fancy one.

we don't have a recommendation, I mainly use one when canoeing, seems that the hiking I do is on well worn trails and I rarely pull the map and compass out of the pack, I remember using one in SW Colorado on a trail when we took a wrong turn and ran out of "rut", if you want me to shop on line and give you an opinion I can do that or you can give me a couple of choices and I will help. On the John Muir Trail in California I only used a map, sun was always shining in August.
