EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Meanwhile, just got back from slathering combs with vaseline. Monkey was very well behaved and just sat there letting me slather his comb really thoroughly (which is good, as he's the one I'm worried about). I got Earl's slathered, but JoJo and Mr. Blue were more fussy and I only got the combs partially slathered. That should be enough for now - hoping it will stave off any damage for Monkey (or further damage - wish I had remembered to do this LAST night).

Don't usually have to worry about combs. I had fans running last night on the split leaf philodendron it's so large I can't move it in. I've got it covered tonight that cover will stay all winter. It's against the house and as you mentioned the radiant heat from the house seems to keep it quite well.

Georgia has started making chatty/trilling noises when I come in the room, and it's the cutest thing.... :love
Might haveta keep her in all winter

I'm pretty sure Monkey's got some circulatory issues or something - the other boys in that coop have pretty big combs as well, and no problems, and no problems for anyone else in the yard. But I want to prevent/limit damage for him nonetheless.

Yeah, I try to plant my more tender plants near the house. Not only does the radiant heat help protect in the cold, but it's also often easier to cover them (needing to really only cover on the side next to the house if you can swing it), and they often also benefit from shade in the summer. My big potted curry leaf tree has a "sweet spot" right next to my side door - enough protection in winter not to need to cover, and just the right amount of sun. My father used to collect cats cactus (OMG, autocorrect!!!!!), so I learned a lot that way - large swaths of my childhood was spent moving plants inside and out, depending on night time lows...

Georgia's reaction to the latest diaper is raising one foot higher and higher and then suddenly tumbling off the edge of the bed. :lau
