Congrats! Though that's an interesting habit you're encouraging... :lau You could do this to protect your chickens from hawks! (I later found green surveyors tape on Amazon, finally...) :jumpy Awwwwwww..... So cute! It happens so fast - I'll be doing my Day 10 candle right when I get home. I'll have to start getting the brooder together toot sweet!!! Working on the computer right now thinking through potential gravity (bucket) fed automatic waterers with alternating cups and horizontal nipples. I gotta try something different than those crazy big hanging bell waterers - I'm going to seriously pull a muscle one day, my back can't handle that long term... - Ant Farm
Just think.. I'll have a duck that pulls my finger! :lau I actually did that to my run this summer- seemed to work fine.
Problem: Birds easily flying over 4' fence surrounding their yard; roughly 12'x12' Wanting to cover it somehow, but want to be able to walk upright (at least in the center), & don't want snow load to gather. Suggestions?
A tent like shape, with a center pole, and some hardware/ fish/bird net over it.

This sort of netting:

https://www.amazon.com/Best-Choice-Products-Netting-Poultry/dp/B001W2AG2M?th=1

I ordered some a while ago (before I realized how well my roosters took care of alarming for their hens and how well everyone looked after themselves), and then rearranged my plans temporarily, so it's been sitting unused so far. I'll be using it to cover the paddock/run for the growout pens this spring - lots of hawks, and they won't have a big rooster in with them like the other groups. I may also install it over one pen with a chronic "escaper" hen - excellent flier.

(I think you might be able to get it cheaper, though I don't know whether that would be accompanied by a drop in quality. I certainly know you can get it at a much HIGHER price, though, having found this one finally...)

Edit to clarify: You'll need some posts in the ground within the run to hold up the netting or something - you can make them tall enough for you to walk under. Almost all of the ones for sale are large enough to give you sufficient drape down to the top of your 4' fencing, methinks.

How do aircells look?

As long as your eggs are losing ~0.65% of there weight per day then your aircells should be alright.
