Yeah, that was the other thing I was thinking... Is fertility a predictable issue when it's really cold? Or dark?

Not at all.

I use artificial lights from the 20th of November on, It still is just a guessing game.

I do a little better on the birds I keep inside but it is a hard thing to do and even then it is not good.

I have 5-6 dozen (I am definitely too intelligent to put dux eggs anywhere but in a compost pile) to go in tomorrow...




Which means in 3 weeks I will have 3 or 4 more chicks!

That's an idea! My sister runs 4-H, I might ask her if she knows anyone who might want these.

, I haven't got a bator that will hold that many But if my uncles works then I might be able to set that many.

Meanwhile, Egg #8 (the one that pipped at the apex) is trying to zip really high (normal air cell, so no idea why this little nut is doing this! I've arranged to work from home (I have a ton to do on the computer anyhow) - watching to see if the little one needs help getting out. Going to let him try on his own first - the zip does seem to be spiraling down a bit...
