Came back from travels with tales of chicken woe -how stinky the chicks are, how they eat so much and that the garage is over run by rats, and how the rooster crows day and night.
DH is not a fan of chickens.
Well there may have been a rat in the garage (there was food all over the floor) but none have been caught in the trap (rat zapper -never fails IF there are rodents present). The garage was stinky, but outside the rooster only crows for about 3 minutes once at dawn and once at dusk so pretty good in my book!!!
PLUS there were 4 eggs in the coop (ayam cemani) and the lone hen has laid an egg every day since I got back so there are 7 ready to go into the Bator!!!
Planning on setting the eggs tomorrow. Seems a waste to set maybe 8 eggs in a cabinet bator.
Now there are now NO CHICKS IN THE GARAGE
The cemani youngsters that went outside 2 weeks ago look really great.
The new chicks that just went outside to the baby coop refuse to go up into the coop space and huddle in the mud outside
They are mostly trader joe chicks - sweet but SO not smart
