EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Chook are much worse at feeding time. They will fly up on your arms, sometimes on your head, whilst a whole mob tries to eat the buttons off your skirt and more storm the feeding box. Attempts to teach them manners failed....

:lau. See my chickens don't do that, it's the ducks. (Though none fly onto me) I'm always tripping over them.

My ducks always waited patiently at the back. They were easy to train. They learned fast that I'd toss a cup back their way and they'd get food, but somehow the chickens haven't figured it out, 4 years later.

The only reason would be if they had pea combs - pea combed Naked Necks have small bowties as Nn and absent or almost absent feathers on neck (totally smooth) as NN. I did a look back, though, and you got your blue egg gene from CCL, which are straight combed...

Probably not completely bare I'll have to take another look after I turn the lights back on in there. Some may have bow tie but I was thinking some would be completely feathered.

Of the four eggs the wife kept warm during the outage all four hatched. Three within the hour after the power came back on and the other this morning. :yesss: two day hatch from start to finish

20 of 25 hatched.

Edited to say 19 of 24 didn't do my math right.

Ok guys a little excitement around here the past few hours. Power went out due to strong winds blowing down power poles. As you know I'm /we are incubating here. So hot water bottles and move the chicks to a new box with the bottles. 4 eggs are quitters one NN almost made it but he died along with the quitters. 15 hatched which leaves 4 eggs left. I put them in an egg carton on the hearth as I'm cleaning up the incubator. Well the wife hears them chirping and tells me she's hearing them. I can't hear them but tell her that when I get every thing cleaned up I'll try and keep them warm till power comes on. Not giving them much of a chance as it's already a day late, and power was off 3 hours. So she takes them and puts them under the blanket with her as I finish up. She says not only are they peeping but she can feel them moving. Power is back on now and they are back in incubator three have pipped external now.

Here's the ones that have hatched.
Maybe you should go by an auto parts store, or maybe WallyWorld, & grab a dc/ac converter to plug into the cigarette lighter in the jitney. Cheaper than a generator or UPS.
