I think it's a box turtle, based on a tiny one I caught crossing the road. Will confirm when I release it.Yep! That's a turtle, alright. That old boy's been around a while! Don't look like the snappers we have around here, though, if that's what it is.

lol, i just look at pictures and see what looks the same, i have no idea bout closing their shells, the only turtle i really know is the snapper because they are so prolific around hereWe have tons of the red eared terrapins, so I'm familiar with them. It's got a deeper shell than the chicken turtle, I think.
I've always called any turtle with the ability to close its shell a box turtle, but I think Liz (?) is right. I am also not a turtle expert.![]()
First gut thought was the stinkpot turtle, just because I wanted it to be.and I think I remember they have those extra-domed shells.![]()
thats great that they were able to save a fewExactly, my neighbor had one lay eggs in her yard near pond. They watched and waited for eggs to hatch. Their son told them it was way past time to hatch. Apparently the dirt had become to hard when they dug up the nest most had died while trying to get out. They managed to get 6 remaining ones to hatch.
