I spent 30 years in the Duluth area. When I retired I moved to Florida for a couple years then decided my Mom needed some help if she was going to stay out of a nursing home, not that she deserves to stay out of a nursing home.....

When I got my email account 25 -30 years ago, I was watching the movie "The Christmas Story" Which is not unusual as I watch it 10 times or more a year. I love the movie.

I needed a name so I tried Ralphie but it was taken, so I added Duluth to it and it was good, So I use the same handle all the time. I am not creative enough to think of another one.

Orrock Twp s where I grew up, and where I bought the farm at...LOL LOL LOL Bought the farm!!! I am so clever!!
Wow! Cool!
Love Christmas Story also. Never had a bb try to take my eye out, but did try as a kid, thought whacking a aluminum arrow of my dads on a horseshoe pit post would bend it around, snapped and ripped through my ear, very close to the eye Lol!
Pretty funny how some of us have picked our 'handles'.
I was a 'lurker' for some time on BYC, seemed like every time I was researching chickens it lead to here, sooo ended up joining. Tried many names, foghorn leghorn, wow tons of them, OK, love John Wayne, Rooster Cogburn, same tons of them...love beer can chicken so tried that, ugghhh! lots of them also.... even had a cool beer can chicken pic for a avatar, but been on the silkie site and didn't think anyone here would appreciate a yummy looking chicken meal on a can, hadn't been around and surfed here yet so I thought you'all would be 'offended', didn't realize there was actual meat bird threads at the time.
Beer Can took.

Why don't we have a byc meet up
Are you covering our air fare?
Start up a local one like we did.
We have 300 members in ours.

How much did they weigh?

How do turkeys do it?
My friend's turkeys hatched a bunch of my chicken eggs.

Sorry, it's the Nutrena All Flock I'm talking about, which I can't really get. The Purina is the Flock raiser, and I was not happy with it and likely wouldn't go back to it...
What didn't you like about Flock Raiser?

Well, I'm sure every rooster is different, and it probably also depends on level of light pollution and if they are disturbed in the night by anything, but I have these 7 over about an acre, and they will sometimes call and response with each other, but aren't all that bad. And, indeed, the older ones (I don't mean really old, just 1-2 years old) like to "sleep in", though they'll occasionally respond to a youngun. The 4:30am stuff lasts about 5 minutes tops, then they all shut up for a while. No complaints, and my next door neighbor didn't even know I had chickens. (SEVEN roosters/cockerels - actually 8 at the time - and he never heard them). I DO locate the coops so that most of the noise form crowing is directed toward my house and away from the neighbors.

Alas, Dumbledore (senior cockbird here at about 2 years old) is the self-appointed protector of everybody. He is a hero (protected the entire flock from a pair of terriers), but he also sometimes thinks egg songs are alarm calls. He has phases he goes through - at least that's during the day. (But I'll run out and think something's gotten to them, and it's just that Lissa laid and egg!)
