EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

My little black cochin hen is trying to get me to be her boyfriend. She's with a bunch of other silkies, but none of them are big enough to mate with her quite yet.... or have any interest, rather in mating. I have a feeling she's going to start laying eggs here soon. I was tempted to pen her with my cochin roo... but since he's her dad, I'm not sure if chicken inbreeding is the same as other type of inbreeding.

Would that matter?

Yes I do.

I guess 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

I have a few turkeys in the bator and a dozen ready to go in. Early turkeys will be cool.

I think parent to child is okay, but not brother to sister.

It's called line breeding, It is done to cement certain traits into a line. It's still incest, but I do it all the time with show birds.

The thing to remember is along with the good , you can cement in the bad things too.
