EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

My dear sweet husband went to our Amish neighbor's house today to pick up dog food and much to my surprise, pleasure and excitement, walked in the back door and handed me an egg carton filled with...HATCHING EGGS!

SQUEEEEEEEELLLLLLLL!!

Totally unexpected. I was jumping up and down. It's a wonder I didn't break them as I was trying to check them over and turn them pointy end down. Poor babies to be were quite chilled. First thing I did was check air cells and the ones I could visualize looked good so I have the dozen sitting on the counter top to bring the temp up. Second thing I did was plug in the Brinsea and start it heating.

Can I put these in the incubator tonight as long as the temp is stable? Should I wait till morning and just leave the eggs sitting till then to bring the temp up to room temperature, tilted as recommended?

These are little mutt bantam eggs like the ones I broody hatched last fall. They are lovely little birds though and I wanted more.

Ok, I know I didn't wait till March so don't hold it against me, LOL!

It may be best to put them in, first thing in the morning so they have time to settle... however.... I'd have them in tonight, because i'm impatient.

Sally!!!!!! I have been thinking about you and Harmony so much. I set 12 goose eggs and from candling 9/12 were developing only 22 days left. Again it is great to see you!!!

My little black cochin hen is trying to get me to be her boyfriend. She's with a bunch of other silkies, but none of them are big enough to mate with her quite yet.... or have any interest, rather in mating. I have a feeling she's going to start laying eggs here soon. I was tempted to pen her with my cochin roo... but since he's her dad, I'm not sure if chicken inbreeding is the same as other type of inbreeding.

Would that matter?
lmao she loves you!!!
