EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

I have talked to the head Vet for the state NPIP program..

I am getting the tests done I need to ship the states I could not ship to before!!

I have been trained in doing the tests by USDA vet so I can do them myself and send in the samples needed.

Minnesota NPIP does not require AI testing. Many states include it in their requirements. It is optional as of 2017 in Mn, So I am going to get the testing done in the next couple weeks..

Then I think I will be able to sent them anywhere in 2-3 weeks!! I be so happy!!!

My hatch is going so-so.

I have :
2 toads out
4 Polish out
2 Dominiques out
2 Yokies
2 CLegbars.

I have a few more pipped, but my humidity is low today, 60-65 % closer to 60%..

I have come up with a plan to remedy that. I am going to drill a hole in the top of the hatcher right above the sponge/water pan using a plug to close it when I am not adding water. Then I can add extra water to the pan as needed!

No need to tell me how amazing I am to think of this, I already know I am almost as amazing as Chaos....

Thanks! I got that diagnosis on another thread earlier tonight - I had no idea, felt very dumb and very guilty for missing it, and being lax for checking my birds (who I need to start doing more careful health checks on). I read a LOT of different cures/advice, etc., and have been discussing with Beekissed on the Breeding for Production thread tonight. I pulled him off the roost tonight for the first foot soak (he was sweet), and coated legs with castor oil (following Beekissed's recommendation from her experience). I'm going to also check and treat everyone else while I'm at it, starting with the four other birds with feathered legs... I'm going to do it every night for about a week and see how it's going - I didn't have things set up well tonight (I'm doing this alone) so the oil application wasn't as thorough as it should have/could have been. I'll be better prepared tomorrow.

Yup, that's immediately what I thought, too! My Australorp gets them REALLY easy, I tried the whole Vaseline thing, and castor oil, and soap and water, and a combination, the only thing that eventually worked was two doses of Ivermectin a few weeks apart. She is finally regrowing scales back. I was dosing the whole flock for lice and mites, anyway, so it worked out. The problem now is if you can eat the eggs.......
Oh, I know you can't! I had to throw them into the woods for a good three weeks! Broke my heart, it did, but then I wasn't getting very many of them because of the lice and mites problem. That's why I was treating, couldn't figure out why they weren't laying, was trying everything and anything! Back up to 8 to 10 per day from 15 hens now, though!

That's what I did. Drilled a hole and ran a tube into the water pan, use a funnel on the end to fill with water.
