EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

Hi Everyone! Need help identifying a chick...it's a bantam, clean legged. Picked it up at a local feed store and they just get an assortment so they didn't know the breed. Any ideas?

Had OT this am. Weird stuff happening to the hand/wrist arm and therapist is noticing it. Said she went to talk to the Dr about me but he is out of town.I think we might be getting somewhere

Daily "outing" was stopping at both farm stores. Bought some supplements to try to increase hatch rate and to get the birds ready for show. Chicks were in at both TSC and Family Farm. FF's looked much happier and healthier than TCS's. Bigger, cleaner brooders, fresh food and water and lively. TCs's had a few dead ones in there and many were just laying there not looking good with empty waterers

@kajira I know you had mentioned your TCS chicks were looking rough too last year. I wonder what has changed here. I never have to lift or carry anything at FF and they won't accept tips. TSC they expect me to lift the bags to get to the UPC and never offer a carry out-I have to tell them I physically can do it and then i get dirty looks

I know where I will be taking my business from now on. I may try the TCS by my inlaws to see if it is the same there.

Yeah, I have a hard time supporting TSC - they don't seem to value their chicks the way some of the other places do.

Oh, I think I have known you since I joined (Which was a year ago today by the way.)  I would scroll down the  threads I knew and wonder "who's that??? Oh it that BantyChooks, changed her avatar AGAIN....)

Huh, I'm more famous than I thought.
I can get some later...I'm at work, my husband took that one for me.

@Fire Ant Farm I hope you feel much better today.

Thanks - Now I feel bad for saying anything - it's so minor compared to what's going on with other folks. I'm just a little sleepy.

Quote: Do you mean sort of like a dog crate? I have had both for my greyhounds. If you don't NEED to have the 48" (I did for one of my girls), then keep the 42" - it is significantly less heavy and easier to move around. Just my 2 cents...

Morning all, hatch is in progress. Went to bed with 1 pip, woke up with a chick and 3 more pips.

Ordered stuff to start building the display cooler bator, parts and pieces should start showing up this weekend and I can start putting it together. Need ideas for a name, would like for it have something to do with 1000 due to the fact that is my projected goal for capacity. even though I told the wife I don't plan to fill to capacity

I plan to start a build thread once I get some progress made.

@BantyChooks
I think I recall you asking about the family yesterday. All is well, twins got 4 month shots yesterday so they had a rough night.
Congrats on the hatch, hugs to your twins, and MAN, that's going to be one COOL incubator!!!

One of my eggs that survived 2 nights of power outages, is externally pipped now.

Now, I guess I wait.

The green/dark brown eggs of my red sex links are so hard to candle though :(
They'll do great. I could hardly see into my marans eggs at all, even with two strong flashlights. Was REALLY convinced they had to be dead. Well, they ALL hatched, vigorously and early.

Quote: Oh my..... Is your vehicle the kind you can hose out?!

Oh, and I'm hatching chicks for the school again in April, so we will be able to just keep them all now since we lost most of our flock.
That's a nice way to build back up again.

Was gonna post these before and forgot, but better late than never, eh?

Jazzy, EE x sultan. You'd never guess she was one of the sweetest birds in the flock, eh?

Topaz, giving me the royal stink eye.

Love all your photos - esp. these. Is Lucky trying out for River Dance?!

OK, break over, back to work.
