awwww, so cute, sorry about the chicks though that sucks.Just got home with the cats (finally) - it's been quite a day with cat proofing the house and cleaning two of the brooders and tending weak chicks from the latest group. And it's pouring, which I'm thankful for, but sorta sucked when picking up the cats. They actually wanted me to do that photo op today! I was like, "The cats are tired (they are shy and had to be caught), I'm tired and sweaty and rain-soaked, can I please just email you photos when they're calm and adjusted?") Brooke is shy but ok, and is enjoying looking out at the chickens. Opal is hiding. I hate to bother her, but I'll have to eventually, as I need to make sure she knows where the litter box is... (And she hasn't discovered the kitty towers yet.)
Best shot I can get of Opal so far...
I lost 2 chicks this morning, and one more looks like it won't make it, with another two that are iffy. I keep checking on them about every hour when I can, and making sure they drink, but there's only so much I can do if they are that weak. The rest are running around like champs though. I need to brace myself and head over there and see if there are any more tiny bodies. It's always so sad...
(I'll have to read back later - gotta do weights on one group of chicks and make sure the brooders' water is changed. Big chicken chores will have to wait until tomorrow morning, it's pouring out.)

The incubator has been on since January 30th and holding temp. Planned to set more eggs then didn't have a enough to fill it, but left it on turned off the fan. Now that I have eggs to set it is down to 91degrees and 21% humidity. Added a little water and turned the fan on, will se where it is in a couple hours.

awwww Happy Anniversary you two!! great pics!!!

Thanks - it felt like the right thing to do, and I'm going to enjoy their quiet company. I had begun to suspect that I had developed a bit of a low grade depression after my dog and cat died (maybe not depression, maybe a bad case of the blues, or just lonely). The house got junky, I wasn't taking care of myself like I should, although the chickens have kept me occupied and amused. I was looking at old photos of my cat and dog after texting and PM'ing Emma, and was struck by how much nicer the house was (even with animals in it), and that I looked happier. I needed companions again.
