EDUCATIONAL INCUBATION & HATCHING CHAT THREAD, w/ Sally Sunshine Shipped Eggs

It might be - and it's a bit too early to tell. And remember, they are being compared to a cross that I made using a VERY exceptional rooster I got from a batch of chicks from Ideal and some big GNH girls. Some folks have a hard time finding large NNs. At a minimum, looks like I'll get a nice large cockerel NOT related to Tank out of this, which is good. Probably some nice sized girls as well (we'll see). I'll be weighing them weekly, so we'll be able to get a good idea of their growth. The fact that there is one in there at 2.15 oz at 2 weeks old make some think that shipping is a lot of it.

If this were a goal of yours (big NNs), you could order 25 chicks with the plan to cull all but the very biggest, best, and healthiest. That's what I'm going to do anyhow. That's how I got Tank and Snape.

Thanks I need it this time,  There might have been a small miscalculation with the hatch date...

Are you taking captives again?  What did the judge tell you about that last time?

When she locked me in the closet, he just told her that she has every right to take people that live in the frozen north captive.... I think the judge's name was Ralphie. :rant

Ugh. Hate that. My apples are on their way. I still have some more that need to be planted (yes, I was supposed to do that a while ago). Hoping I don't lose fruit on them. :fl Looks to be a good year for figs and loquats. I've started planning my hatches so I'm not around to obsess about it or be faced with having to restrain myself from messing with them. I've helped out chicks having a hard time hatching, only to have to cull them later, and it broke my heart. I no longer help. Holy Cannoli!!!!!! :th I need goats. But before that, I need the time to take care of goats. Might be a while... I think that is a very reasonable response, Mike. Good boy. Would you like a lollipop? :gig X lots and lots. :hugs Did you get them from ChicKat? Nice looking - I should contact her (as if I need more chickens). My Dumbledore was a soup pot rescue from her flocks (he has a crooked comb). Hey!!!! :frow But I need it back this weekend - I have to round up the cats for a vet visit and I think it'll take a while. So glad - thought it might give you a chuckle. :clap Hope it's still yummy. OMG... :th :hugs :fl - Ant Farm
Ah.

So I know little about Ayami Cemani, but this local wants $900 for this pair. Doesn't one have gold leakage making it worth less? Same dude has cull chicks because toe nails are white. Don't they often turn black after meturity? I am not currently in the market for these. Just want to soak in some knowledge if I can.

Edited to add culls are $20 each.

@Phage knows/raises Ayam Cemani. But the inside of the mouth looks too "not-black" to me. But it depends on the goals. Since I want to get fm (the fiber gene that gives dark skin) into some of my Naked Necks, I would be happy with culls that had minor issues for those who need "pure/perfect" ones. I'd be crossing them anyway, and I don't sell eggs or chicks. But if one were thinking of buying them to suddenly make thousands of dollars int eh next 12 months, not gonna happen.

Hi all,

I am not going to read the last million posts, so I will just assume you all said nice glowing things about me and will thank you for the compliments. :love

I have a turkey egg externally  pipped, the first of the year, It will not hatch, it is suppose to hatch on the 18th and I just put them in the hatcher this afternoon.   I am guessing this will be a shrink wrap fatality.

My hatcher looks beautiful tonight , 5 trays of 3 dozen eggs a tray.  Finally full!

NEVER underestimate those turkey poults! Don't you remember last year when I was always late for lockdown and always had an early poult in the bottom of the cabinet when I opened it? I dry incubate too so don't give up on it yet!

At this point in my life there is not a chicken out there worth $900 a pair. I was thinking this guy is a fool for asking that much for birds that are not 100% black.
